Shelter in Place, Inda Eaton?s 8th independently produced album is a stunning mix of emotionally charged anthems, ballads, and boot-stompers, featuring B. Rehm-Gerdes, Michael Gugliemo, Jeff Marshall and Jeffrey Smith (with special appearances by Eve Nelson, Nancy Atlas, Lee Lawler and Rose Lawler). This collection of eleven story-rich songs highlights the power of human connection and offers a dashboard-drumming, heart-healing journey through life, death, laughter and love.

Whereas Eaton?s previous albums deliver an ode to wanderlust and the personal circumstances that have prompted her lifelong escape artistry, Shelter in Place takes a hard, consequential look at being a home-life absentee, and offers a full-circle reckoning of the road?s darker side. As she herself states, Shelter in Place ?is a story about taking cover to process the outward chaos before emerging to connect on the next literal and metaphorical road trip.?

Shelter in Place was recorded at my home in Springs, NY. Two guys from Queens showed up in the dead of winter with a mini-van full of recording equipment ranging from analog solid state gear, vintage mics, digital processors to a convenience store security camera system used to monitor the sessions from the back bed room. In truth, Shelter in Place came together long before the mini van arrived and the process continued long after with rehearsals, songwriting, additional recording, Sunday dinners, spontaneous get-togethers and barbeques. We honored the good times and shared the struggle. The ideas & experience became the songs.

Love, gratitude & respect to the artists who joined together to create this project!

Tracks

Your sun burned out in the middle of the day
and the rain came down
It?s all around
How much more can one man say
when that pain comes down
and it?s all around?

Board that plane on a Friday night
for the desert lands
to the savior man
?He?s not your Dad or an honest man,
but a change is due
One day you will understand?

Let it rain
Let it rain
Let it rain

Living that life in a western age,
you with the youthful smile,
door open to the gilded cage
When I saw things you can?t explain,
you said ?things are different now,
no talk of the good old days?

Chorus

You and I
see things in different ways,
so close but not the same
You and I
both live in different states,
so close not in grace

Chorus

I woke up in the desert
I woke up in the plains
I woke up in the valley of the shadow of death
But I fear no evil
for thou are not with me
and I am free

I?m Free to roam
Free to go
To spread my wings
To be Free

Complacent in Tucson where I met you by plane
Was a whirlwind, was a daydream
Sometimes everything ends up in pain
But thou are not with me
And I am free

I still see those dead yellow roses of Texas
On the table in the house that we once shared
It was quiet from afar in the mirror of my car
Still see those dead yellow roses of Texas

We?re fast friends, playing house
Blank slate, no past
Force of nature on the phone
Deleting all those messages from home

Chorus

Things moved fast, until I said ?I do?
Up to the end, when you said ?we?re through?
Over promise, under deliver
Only to find that there?s a stranger in the bed

Chorus

Ooh – Medicated
Ooh – I?m a peaceful warrior
Ooh – It?s complicated

I still see those dead yellow roses of Texas
On the table in the house that we once shared
It was quiet from afar in the mirror of my car
Still see those dead yellow roses of Texas

Driving around on our own,
seeing the country in a motor home
Could you settle down here?
Would you have my baby in this town?

Past the show there was a tank of gas
Standing at the pump, zone out
The mind it wanders to what it?s like to live inside your head

They say home doesn?t change
but the travel changes you
Tried everywhere in this wide rear view
And it?s true,
the road it changes you
The road it changes you

From St. Louis down to Oklahoma,
Albuquerque to Phoenix, Arizona
I drove all night in my mind just to get on home to you
Camped out in Southern California,
over the Rockies and on to Milwaukee
I drove all night in my mind just to get on home to you

Leaving town sounds like a better plan
It always does when your life stacks up like dishes
It?s time to head out on the road

Pre chorus
Chorus

The road it changes you

I keep looking, Jack of Diamonds to fill out the hand
Can?t sleep, don?t think this is my bed
You know time goes when we never ask why
I know that it?s my time to fly

It?s cold in the morning when I reach out my hand
from the shadows of winter around us
I know someone should speak but the words never come
I taste copper and I roll back to bed

Chorus

It started in the sun in a happy embrace
Surrounded by foam and the blue in the waves
I fell in love with your spirit, strong sense of play
I fell in love your vision of grace

Chorus

Now all that remains is the deal of the cards
This is all that your memory has left
It?s scattered in pockets o?er rocky terrain
still looking for Jack of Diamonds to fly.

Chorus

The winds of change are coming,
they?ve been blowing all along
This place, it holds us back
From the voices ?round the table,
now we?re heading to the door
Hard to hear the words that you don?t live here anymore

It started with a whisper
Now it ended with a bang
Hard to hear the words and to walk them back
Mad and now you?re fine?
depressed and out of time
While it?s hard to hear the words, I can?t take this anymore

Don?t let your sanity hold you back
Don?t let your sanity hold you back
In the winds of change a coming
Don?t let your sanity hold you back

The winds of change have come,
they?ve been with me all along
It?s hard to see that now and to walk it back
Bold and out of time
Painful yet resigned
It makes it hard to say the words that I don?t love you anymore

Don?t let your sanity hold you back
Don?t let your sanity hold you back
In the winds of change a coming
Don?t let your sanity hold you back
From my sobriety, agility, philosophy, tenacity, ferocity, serenity

Tender is the moment,
tender is the touch
When I put my arms around you I can never get enough
Will there ever be enough?
Will we ever find enough?

I could?ve loved you for a lifetime
but the lifeline wasn?t mine
Could there be a better burden to keep?
I know inside this moment there is comfort, there is ease
Drawn to find you in the bittersweet embrace

There is no control in this moment in time
Ever breathless the riddle unwinds
No there is no control in this moment in time
Ever breathless the riddle unwinds

Lost a friend
Life is such a cost
There?s no end no
To the mourning of the loss
We lose them everyday in a war I can?t explain
So far away from here

Your picture?s everywhere
Likeness is a haunt
I feel you in my soul
Broke some bread, spilled the bottle
just to cover it up
to feel you in my soul

Move so fast just to feel no pain
better for the distance
better for the gain
Move so fast to feel nothing at all

People telling me,
?time to move ahead?
But from where now,
if the goal is just the end?
I see you everywhere
from the minutes to the hours,
so far away from here

Chorus

There?s fire on the mountain,
there?s fire in the soul
It?s a cloudy day through the smoky haze
It?s another day
in a western town
I see what I want and I push that down

What happens on the road stays on the road

It all comes down now
I couldn?t hold up
Race to the bottom of this endless empty cup
There?s no resolve,
no sleep for days
and the town kept burning down through the fiery haze

What happens on the road stays on the road

There?s a world outside the window that I will never know
Tomorrow isn?t guaranteed at all
I?d love to think I?d like you, but we will never know
What happens on the road stays on the road

There?s fire on the mountain,
so much fire in the soul
I can see it in your face
I could write how this will end
Yes, it?s another day in this sleepy western town
where we think the sun will rise again and never let us down

Chorus

There?s a world outside the window that I will never know
Tomorrow isn?t guaranteed at all

You can go home
but you can?t go back,
back to better days
It never really pans out

Fast forward the end,
bright side of the road
There was a wordless goodbye
There was a feeling of freedom

All good things must come to an end
You could see for miles and not understand
All the kings? horses and all the queens? men
couldn?t bring our yesterday whole

Out in Mohave
past the new frontier
Motel desert oasis
Where the thoughts run clear

They say it?s better to love
than have nothing to lose
Such a peaceful illusion
when there was nothing to choose

Chorus

Thought there was a plan,
then there was none
You close that door
to where you come from
The earth?s not flat,
but it feels that way
and I?m driving off today

You nod your soul
to the passerby
who moves so quick
on the yellow line
With a road so clear
on the sunny side,
you feel you have to try

Once it was and always was
and never was again
There is no fear, no pain
Forever as it always is
and never is again
There is no fear, no pain

The things we think
in a thoughtful way,
they all get done
and they go away
But the love you share
on a given day?
It never goes away

Once it was and always was
and never was again
There is no fear, no pain
Forever as it always is
and never is again
There is no fear, no pain
Once is how it always was
and never was again
There is no fear, no pain
Forever as it always is
and never is again
There is no fear.
